What is "timely progress," and how does it affect me if I use my Ticket?
Stop the Panic: Mastering SSA’s "Timely Progress"
The most terrifying thing in your mailbox isn't a bill—it’s that brown envelope from Social Security. Specifically, the dreaded Medical Continuing Disability Review (CDR). It feels like a pop quiz on your health, where a "wrong" answer could threaten your entire safety net.
But what if you could hit "pause" on those medical reviews?
At Advocations, we know the system is scary. The rules are dense, and the timelines are confusing. You don't have to navigate the "oh-nos" and the unknowns alone. We are here to break down one of the most powerful tools in your Ticket to Work arsenal: Timely Progress.
What is Timely Progress?
When you assign your Ticket to an Employment Network (EN) like Advocations, you enter a partnership. The deal is simple: You commit to making headway on your work goals, and in exchange, the SSA shifts its focus.
Instead of checking your medical status to see if you are still disabled, they switch gears to check your vocational progress. This is the Timely Progress Review (TPR).
The Timeline You Need to Know
Deadlines matter, and the clock starts the moment you assign your Ticket. Here is how the SSA measures your journey:
The 24-Month Mark: This is your first major check-in. The SSA looks at your progress two years after you've assigned your Ticket.
Every 12 Months After: Once you pass that first check, they will check in annually to ensure you are still moving toward your goals.
The "Fear-Buster" Benefit
Here is the best part: As long as you are making Timely Progress—meeting specific education or work milestones—you are exempt from medical CDRs.
That’s right. No surprise medical exams. No defending your diagnosis to a stranger. You get the breathing room to focus on your career and your future, not your paperwork.
Important: The Fine Print
We value transparency, so let’s be clear about what this shield does and doesn't do:
Medical Reviews vs. Income Limits: Timely Progress protects you from medical reviews. However, you still have to navigate income and resource limits regarding your monthly cash benefits.
It’s Not Automatic: You have to do the work. If you aren't hitting the required milestones (like completing a certain number of months of work or credits of school), the shield drops, and you may face a medical review again.
Don't Panic, We've Got This
If this sounds complicated, it’s because it is—but you don't have to be an expert in SSA policy to succeed. That’s why The A-Team is here.
We help people with disabilities turn confusion into confidence. We will help you understand your specific milestones, track your timeline, and ensure you stay compliant so you can keep that medical review exemption active.
