What is the Ticket to Work Program in 2026
How to Navigate Ticket to Work in 2026 Without the Panic.
Let’s be real for a second. The idea of returning to work when you rely on disability benefits is terrifying. You’ve got your safety net, and the thought of one wrong move cutting off your income or healthcare is enough to keep anyone awake at night.
We hear you. But we also know that 2026 brings some good news!
If you are between 18 and 64 and receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the Ticket to Work program is your backstage pass to financial freedom—without the risk of a sudden "benefits cliff."
Here is how we are navigating the 2026 rules together.
The Safety Net is Stronger
The biggest myth we bust every day is that "working means losing everything immediately." It doesn’t. In fact, the program is designed to let you test the waters.
Trial Work Period (TWP): You can test your ability to work for at least 9 months. During this time, you can earn any amount and still receive your full cash benefit.
2026 Update: In 2026, a month only counts toward your trial period if you earn over $1,210. If you earn less, it doesn't even use up one of your trial months.
You Have More "Wiggle Room"
Once your trial period is over, there is still a buffer. The Social Security Administration raised the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) limits for 2026.
Non-Blind: $1,690/month
Blind: $2,830/month
Translation: You can earn more money this year than last year before it affects your benefits status. This gives you more breathing room to find the right role.
No More "Medical Review" Anxiety
Here is the best kept secret of the Ticket to Work program: Protection. As long as you are actively participating in the program with an Employment Network (that’s us!), Social Security pauses those stressful Continuing Disability Reviews (CDRs). No more worrying about a random letter in the mail questioning your disability while you are trying to focus on your new job.
You Pick Your Team (And We Hope It's Us)
You have the right to choose who helps you navigate this journey. You can search the official directory at choosework.ssa.gov/findhelp, or you can work with The A-Team at Advocations.
