Flip the Script: Why You Need to Interview the Interviewer

Let’s be honest—interviews can feel like an interrogation. You’re sitting there, hoping you have the right answers, worried about explaining a gap in your resume or disclosing a disability.

But here is a secret from the A-Team: The interview is a two-way street.

If you leave the room without asking questions, you might think you’re being polite. In reality, silence can look like desperation. It signals that you’ll take any job, rather than the right job.

We work different, and we want you to interview different. Here is how our Career Coaches recommend you stand out:

  • Show You’ve Done Your Homework: Don't ask generic questions that could apply to any company. Dig into the job posting. Ask, "I see this role requires [specific skill]; how often will I be using that in a typical week?"

  • Ask About the "Oh-Nos": Don't be afraid to reference reviews you’ve seen on Glassdoor or Indeed. If you see a challenge mentioned, ask about it constructively. It shows you are a critical thinker who cares about the company's culture.

  • Define Success: Ask, "What is the most crucial task I’d tackle in my first 30 days?" This forces the hiring manager to picture you in the role, doing the work.

Remember: You are valuable talent. You are evaluating them just as much as they are evaluating you.

Walking in with questions doesn't make you difficult; it makes you a professional.

Ready to navigate your job search with a team that’s in your corner?

Let’s get to work.
